TSUNAMI
The word “tsunami” comes from Japanese language meaning Great Waves (Tsu: port and Nami: wave). Tsunami is a natural disaster caused by rising sea waves to the mainland at high speeds due to the earthquake centered under the sea. The quake happens caused by some factors such as soil erosion, the plates were shifting, volcanic eruptions and the meteor that crashed in the ocean. When the earthquake occurs, plaque sea floor cracks and up or sink suddenly. It makes some layers of the sea floor up to the surface of the sea with a powerful shiver.
The tsunami can occur in all regions of the world ocean, but in the Pacific Ocean and the surrounding areas have the highest possibility of occurrence of tsunami, because most of the earthquake occur in the line of Pacific Ocean, or more commonly known as the Pacific Ring of Fire (the area that often gets earthquake and volcano eruption). This area is also known as the Pacific seismic belt.
The tsunami has many characters. The tsunami waves propagate at speeds unimaginable, at least 500-1000 km/hour at sea and its height wave is around ten meters. When it reaches the shore, the speed is reduced to 50 to kilometers per hour. Although it reduced rapidly, but the pace can cause serve damage to humans. When tsunami occurs, sea wave moves quickly. The amplitude of the tsunami wave reaches thousands kilometers. Tsunami waves usually are multilayer which every layer has length wave approximately 150 meters and need time about 10 seconds.
